Honoring Our Living Legacy

Verna Jean Hodges

Eldest Cousin and Family Matriarch

As the eldest cousin and a cherished family matriarch, Verna Jean Hodges represents the strength, wisdom, and continuity carried across generations.

Her life reminds us that honoring elders includes listening to their stories, preserving their dignity, recognizing their contributions, and celebrating their presence while they are still with us.

Together, the memory of Great Aunt Gertrude and the living legacy of Verna Jean Hodges inspire a commitment to compassionate care that reaches across families, communities, cultures, and generations.

Honoring Elders Across Generations

In Thailand, respect for elders and family caregiving are deeply valued. According to the World Health Organization, family members — particularly women — provide much of the country's informal, unpaid care for older adults.

Through cultural learning and community partnerships, we seek to honor these traditions while exploring supportive approaches that strengthen older adults, caregivers, families, and communities.

Expanding the Circle of Care

The Gertrude Legacy recognizes that aging, caregiving, grief, displacement, family separation, trauma, and other difficult life experiences may affect emotional, relational, and spiritual well-being across generations.

Our vision extends beyond elder recognition to include trauma survivors, caregivers, veterans, and families who may benefit from culturally respectful, trauma-informed community support, wellness education, meaningful connection, and access to appropriate resources.

Through community-led partnerships, we seek to create supportive pathways that honor individual experiences, strengthen resilience, and promote healing across generations and cultures.
